From January until December 2014, I am Wikipedian in Residence (WiR) for the project Expedition Wikipedia, an initiative of the Dutch Foundation for Academic Heritage. The project stands out because

  • it is a shared residency of almost 10 Dutch universities' heritage collections, libraries and museums;
  • it has a thematic focus: the residency is only about the topic of scientific expeditions;
  • the residency also involves several educational sub-projects in which I, as a WiR, act as a guest lecturer for groups of bachelor and master students of several universities. The students write papers about expedition-related topics, and will - under my guidance - contribute their acquired knowledge to Wikimedia projects (example at Maastricht University).

In my presentation, I will briefly explain this project, and will then proceed to publicly self-evaluate my residency's process and results until this point and compare it to models of more 'traditional' WiR projects. Discussion is very welcome.
