Abstract (at least 300 words to describe your proposal)

In this presentation I will describe the education program of Wikimedia Hong Kong. Usually the students in Hong Kong would like to use Wikipedia for their reference, to help themselves understand what they have learnt in classes more clearly. However, it is not common for them to contribute to Wikipedia. Through the education program, we hope that students to become the valuable members in the community. Meanwhile, students can learn how to use Wikipedia with the appropriate attitude.

Wikimedia Hong Kong is trying to cooperate with a college, focusing on the topics about literature and linguistics. It is because the amounts of these articles are not as much as others and the information are incomplete. There are much more articles about science than literature. It is understandable because there are definitions in science but there is no in literature. The pilot of the program will be in 2014. In this program, we will invite the students who are major in English literature or linguistics from the college to participate some workshops (if possible) to learn how to edit on Wikipedia. Then they will try to edit the articles which are related to the topics. For example, students can share the way how they approach the literary texts with different criticisms, so that when other people read the articles, they can get to know more about it. We hope that students can share their knowledge to improve the quantity and the quality of the related pages after this program. I believe that it can help Wikipedia professionalize these topics.

The presentation will focus on the major findings in the pilot. This program is special because of the combination of literature and linguistics with Wikipedia. Meanwhile, there will be a discussion. The possibility of further development of the program will be discussed.
