Following up on the launch of Wikimetrics in the summer of 2013, the Wikimedia Foundation Analytics Team started working on a new project to provide standardized metric definitions of user engagement, community and content growth for all Wikimedia projects. The goal of Wikimetrics was to support cohort analysis – i.e. provide aggregate measurements of the activity of discrete groups of Wikimedians. The Editor Engagement Vital Signs, conversely, aims to provide actionable growth and activity measurements of the entire population and content of Wikimedia projects. It will do so by:
- adopting consistent metric definitions
- generating aggregate data for each metric on a daily and monthly basis
- providing dashboards for each metric for every Wikimedia project from day 1
In this talk we will review research conducted by the team in order to produce recommendations for these metrics and we'll give an overview of the design and demo of the first release of the Vital Signs project.
