Open Scholarship Weekend: 19 - 20 July

Calling researchers, academics, students, librarians, and anyone else interested in open access, open research, open science and open scholarship: You're invited to the Wikimania Open Scholarship Weekend. We are opening up what a hackathon can be! Bring your opinions and experience with open scholarship and share them. Whether you're a newbie or a Wikimedian, scientist or scholar, no coding skills are necessary! If you're interested in open scholarship, you're invited to attend.

Day One: 19 July

General discussion on open scholarship, in which you'll hear from Wikimedians and people working on open scholarship projects. The day is open for attendees to deliver 5-20 minute talks about their open scholarship activities and how they relate to Wikimedia and other open projects. We'll have a chance to discuss where Wikimedia has already engaged with open scholarship, such as open content in Wikimedia Commons, and dream about where it can be in one year, five years, and ten years. By the end of day one, we'll have a shared understanding of the work that's going on in open scholarship and how it aligns with Wikimedia.

Day Two: 20 July

Sunday is open for attendees to collaborate on making plans for future joint projects, to build tools and learn how to use them. We'll get down to planning how to make the Open Scholarship track at Wikimania 2014 the best it can be.

Throughout the hack, we'll have interactive activities, social time, and a chance to learn about Wikipedia, open scholarship, and how we'll change the world. If you're ready to get involved in Wikipedia and open scholarship, now's your chance to plan the future.
