Please add your suggestions below for what information the information desks at Wikimania need to know. If you can contribute the answers as well, that's excellent but not required!
Knowledge of London/transport etc
Would be ideal to have people with some knowledge of how to navigate London (Tube knowledge etc), particular getting to/from the touristy bits. Joe Sutherland (talk) 14:29, 22 July 2014 (UTC)
- Understanding of TFL website would be good
- How local health service works - what if not emergency how do you see a doctor?
- Nearest Pharmacy/ walk-in clinic/ GP/ Casualty
- Local Church, mosque , synagogue.
- What would be a good walk for an hour, two hours, three hours.
- What are the good shows, exhibitions etc on at the moment?
Are we going to have a pile of Time Outs at Wikimania? (London & Partners will be giving handouts/guides to every attendee --EYoung (WMF) (talk) 21:08, 22 July 2014 (UTC)
My two cents:
- Information for emergencies:
- Useful phone numbers (police, ambulances, etc.)
- What to do in case of a robbery / nearby police stations
- Tourism-related
- Transport peak times
- Useful/interesting routes on bus, tube, walk
- Alternate routes to/from venue

- Disruption on the West Coast main line from Euston, Friday to Monday. 82.132.237.233 18:16, 22 July 2014 (UTC)
- Recommended places to buy traditional "London" gifts to take home (such as English tea or a good Museum gift shop)
Also:
- Where are the hotels/ dorms and how to get to them.
- Understanding of the layout of the venue, and when and where are the lectures and the facilities.
- Opening hours of local museums and other visitors sites, and having phone numbers of such sites to ensure they are actually open.
- Where can one do laundry
- How to get back to the airport

Where are the:
- First aiders
- Place to crash out if you are feeling unwell
- Loos
- Lost property
- Rooms we are using
- Food and drink
- Electricity points
- nearest ATM
- Charge (£1.99): Outside the library on level 2 of the Barbican Centre.
- Free: several by Moorgate station (5 minutes walk)
- nearest pharmacy
- nearest supermarket
- Tesco Express, 131 Aldersgate St, London EC1A 4JQ - 5 minute walk, next to Barbican underground station)
- Cheap eats close by (eg that nice street food market close by for lunch?)
- Whitecross Street market is very close, easy to find (out the main entrance, turn left, keep going until you get there) and great value if you don't want to eat the lunch provided. However it is only open Monday-Friday so most people wont get to experience it.
